Okay, so I have always been a fan of athletes. I kind of have a thing for them. Probably because I consider myself a ‘swimmer’. You know the story, I used to swim for Gauteng… when I was eleven!

Bearing my ‘vast athletic’ experience in mind, I traipsed off to the 5fm studios, where Gareth Cliff would be hosting Roland Schoeman and Oscar Pistorius.

How great is the revamped radio park at the public broadcaster looking? Very spiffy! Oscar seemed very relaxed for someone who was going to leave for the paralympics in less than a week. But I guess he is used to the pressure. Can’t believe he missed qualifying for the able-bodied games by 0.7 seconds.

Oscar told me he actually hates the nickname ‘blade runner’ and ‘the fastest thing with no legs’ saying it isn’t positive in any way. On my way home I thought about it and actually agree. It’s a tabloid name and really doesn’t add anything. Why not Oscar Pistorius? That works for me!

And then there was a light! Now, I have always been a fan of our favourite swimmer and resident heat hottie Ryk Neethling. But when Roland walked in my mind changed. I was now a Schoeman supporter.

After the show, Roland granted me an in-depth interview. He told me of how he was on the prowl for a girl. The swimmer explained in detail how many athletes abstain prior to the Olympics and then look for a ‘release’ once their events are completed.

Ladies, Roland has not yet found that release! So after giving him my number, I walked away floating on little aero bubbles and wondered what to do with this precious information. What else! I had to share it with you of course! Happy hunting!
