Brad & Ange donate a million
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have been in the headlines for all the wrong
reasons recently, but that has changed after the couple donated $1 million
(R8 million) to a U.S hospital.
The Hollywood pair gave the generous contribution to St. John’s Hospital in
the actor’s hometown of Springfield, Missouri, over the weekend. The money
will be used to pay for children’s cancer specialists.
Brad’s brother Doug, who also contributed to the donation, revealed the
hospital’s treatment unit will be renamed the Jane Pitt Pediatric Cancer
Center in honour of their mother who is very passionate about children’s
health issues.
The money will also go towards building a new paediatric unit, a 10-bedroom
hospice and increasing the size of the neonatal and paediatric intensive
care units. Once work is completed St. John’s will become one of six
affiliates of the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Angelina and Brad – who have three adopted children, Maddox, seven, Pax,
five, and four-year-old Zahara, as well as three biological children,
Shiloh, three, and 11-month-old twins Konx and Vivienne – are known for
their work with good causes with Ange working as a UN ambassador and Brad
having devoted his time to helping victims of the 2005 hurricane Katrina
which devastated New Orleans. And in the last year alone, it has been
revealed the pair donated over $8 million to charity.
