South Africa’s very own Hollywood star Charlize Theron has been released from hospital after contracting a dangerous stomach virus.

The actress spent four nights in a Los Angeles hospital after suffering severe abdominal pains, which she initially attributed to food poisoning. But when the sharp stomach pangs failed to go away, her boyfriend Stuart Townsend took her to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles to seek treatment.

According to the U.S. tabloid the National Enquirer, doctors ran a series of tests on the Monster star and diagnosed her with a serious virus, thought to have been contracted during her travels overseas.

The whole ordeal left Stuart shaken and he reportedly told friends, "I was scared to death. I had no idea what was happening to her, but this is a woman who never complains, so I knew it had to be serious."

Thankfully, Charlize responded to treatment and is now back to full health.
