Exclusive: Oscar Pistorius denies assault
Oscar Pistorius's braai at his house in Silverlakes ended in disaster yesterday when the 23-year-old Paralympic hero ended up behind bars, after an uninvited guest whom he'd asked to leave laid a charge of assault.
Oscar told heat exclusively that the woman in question was a friend of a friend, whom he'd tagged along to the braai uninvited. As the afternoon wore on, the 19-year-old woman had a little too much to drink and became loud and argumentative towards a friend of Oscar's.
According to another guest, Oscar intervened and asked the woman to leave. "She was out of control, swearing at the guests and saying she would kill everyone! Oz told her that if she couldn't handle her drink she should rather leave his house as she was spoiling things for everyone," says the guest. "The woman left, but then she came back and started kicking at the door. Oz opened the door and told her to stop damaging his property and leave, or he'd call the police. She kicked the double door so hard that a panel fell off!" explained the eyewitness.
He maintains that the injury that the woman claims was caused by Oscar assaulting her, was sustained in her own rampage, when the panel she had kicked in fell on her leg. Oscar had summoned security and was deliberating whether he should lay a charge against the destructive guest, when the police arrived.
"The girl had gone and laid a charge against him, saying that Oz had assaulted her - how outrageous!" said the eyewitness.
The Paralympic champion was arrested and spent the night in a police cell. He was released on Sunday morning and will appear in court early in the week. The charge, in the meanwhile, has been changed from assault to cause grievous bodily harm to common assault, although the sports hero will contest this. According to a friend, Oscar is considering laying a counter charge of malicious destruction of property.
