Jub Jub update: Grieving family speaks out
The family of one of the boys killed in yesterday’s tragic crash involving hip-hop singer Jub Jub has spoken to heat about the accident.
Phumelelo Masemola was a grade 10 learner at a local Soweto school. He was walking home after school with a group of friends when they were hit by two cars that had been dicing through the dusty streets of Soweto.
“He was such a kind, loving boy. Phumi wanted to be a doctor when he left school. Now Jub Jub has ruined that,” the boy’s aunt, who did not want to be named, told heat. Phumi’s father was too distraught to come to the phone.
During the emotional interview, the woman lashed out at Jub Jub and the driver of the other car, saying she wished they could also feel her family’s pain. “I wish him nothing. He might as well be dead to me. We are in shock. We are mourning. It is a terrible day.”
Two boys are currently fighting for their lives in hospital. Jub Jub and the driver of the other car are currently being held at the Protea Police Station Cells until their court appearance tomorrow.
Police say initial reports suggest both were over the legal drinking limit. Further tests for drugs are being conducted.
