Marilize's lie-detector test: passed!
Don’t take our word for it that Marilize van Emmenis is telling the truth when she says that Joost snorted CAT with her – see her in the hot seat of a polygraph test for yourself. Joost, meanwhile still denies denies denies, as recently as Monday morning on radio.
As part of the scientific investigation to verify her story, heat contracted respected law firm Edward Nathan Sonnenberg to conduct a polygraph test on her, which Marilize passed with flying colours. The test was carried out by Amelia Griesel, the president of the SA Professional Polygraph Association at the offices of ENS in Sandton.
Griesel uses the latest Lafayette computerised digital polygraph system, and the method that was used in Marilize’s case was the United States Air Force Modified General Question Technique – Confirmatory.
The complete polygraph test takes about 40 minutes, during which the test and the implications of such a test is explained to the examinee, followed by the test itself, where four questions relevant to the case are asked at intervals between other questions.
The relevant questions that were asked were as follows (in Afrikaans):
Was it Joost on the video featured on heat’s website?
Did you see Joost using drugs?
Did you see Joost using drugs on another occasion?
Was the drug used on the video CAT?
Marilize answered “Yes” on all questions, and Griesel’s findings were as follows:
“A careful review of the examinee took place subsequent to the completion of the three charts and according to the tracings on the charts of Marilize van Emmenis she showed no constant significant responses to the relevant questions as asked. It is my professional opinion that Marilize van Emmenis has been truthful when answering the questions as indicated above. (She) can be excluded in your continuous investigation unless new evidence proves otherwise.”
See Marilize undergoing the test below. Please note that due to the personal nature of the technical questions used to calibrate the test, they have been edited out of the video. Therefore, you will see time lapses in the time-code.
