The Oscar nominees have been announced and, as usual, there are surprises, dead certs and sentimental choices across the board.

The nominations that have heat Towers in a tizz are:

Best Picture: Slumdog Millionaire

Best Actor: Brad Pitt for The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button

Best Actress: Angelina Jolie for Changeling

Best Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger for his role as the Joker in The Dark Knight

Best Supporting Actress: Penelope Cruz for Vicky Cristina Barcelona
